Update: Hi all, hope you are all in good spirits and looking forward to this coming Saturday! We have organised 10 large rubbish bags from the city and will be bringing a swag of Coles shopping bags plus some spare rubbish bags. If you wish, byo bags and if you like, also some name tags. Sticky nametags will be available on the day.
cravo10 has very kindly offered to bring sausages, buns, sauce and onions for all participants! Thanks so much cravo 10, this is much appreciated!
That is all for now - watch this space for last minute updates!
A get together of a few cachers over a couple of lost pairs of tweezers sparked the thought of having a proper caching event, where more of us could get to know each other over some fun, some new caches, some tidying our beautiful beachfront and sharing a bbq at the end of it all.
To be honest, the task of organising it turned out to be much harder than anticipated. Not that organising rubbish bags was difficult, nor putting the whole thing online. The hard part was to find a spot that wasn't along a road (to keep our younger members safe) that actually needs cleaning up!
So congratulations to all up front for living in such a tidy part of our beautiful country
After much driving around looking for a suitable spot we decided on Salmon Holes. There was a bit of publicity about this great spot last year as it had attracted a fair bit of rubbish from local and visiting fishermen and while there was not a lot around when we went looking, a local environmentalist assured me once the salmon start running in April there was sure to be rubbish to be found!
So here are our thoughts:
When: April 18th 2015 10am - 12pm (providing we find enough rubbish to keep us busy!)
Where: Salmon Holes / Frenchman Bay
Post an "attend" below and let us know how many per team want to be there to give us an idea on how many are coming,
spread the word, and bring along your best mood, some disposable gloves to pick up some rubbish, a hat, your GPS to maybe find some caches afterwards and some water , steak and salad (or whatever you fancy to eat for lunch other than snags, buns, which will be provided, thanks to cravo10).
As Salmon Holes does not have bbq facilities, it was decided to meet at Frenchman Bay for lunch.
It was also suggested Frenchman Bay could be an alternative clean up site for those who can't manage the steps at Salmon Holes.
As this is our first time to organise a CITO event, we are more than happy for suggestions, helpful input and comments and may add instructions prior to the date, so stay tuned!
Our thanks go to allinaday for helping us set up this event!
