Tracking the Mandarin Duck Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

neshcinnob: After six years it seems that there is little continuing interest in the in-tree nesting practices of mandarin ducks. With this archiving there are no active Neschinnob caches.

Geocache Description:

This verbose description traces the round-about steps taken to get this cache in place. One thing leads to another but not in a straight line.

We won this interesting container in a drawing at a Geocache event. The container you will find near the posted coordinates was described by Mrs. Nob as a 'rubber chicken'. Not to be outdone I made the saucy quip that it looked more like a Mandarin Duck to me. The exotic world-traveler-sounding remark eclipsed any further comment so Mandarin Duck became its name. When the remark was made I thought that 'Mandarin Duck' was a fowl dish prepared in a Chinese restaurant. But one thing leads to another: I checked in with Google and began my education. Google informs me that there is a dish called 'Pekin Duck with Mandarin Sauce' which might be very tasty. Google also threw up a multitude of pages about an Asian species known as the Mandarin Duck. My education continued as I delved into the information stream. I quickly learned that, like the Wood Ducks of Oregon, Mandarin Ducks nest in the cavities of trees, scour the riverbanks for food and have the most colorful markings of any bird in their range. One website went on to inform me that “Mandarins are one of the few duck species which are not hunted for food – apparently they taste really bad!” -- Mandarin Duck would be a foul dish. -- I started with food and wound up with this bit of trivia. One thing leads to another. The ongoing comments about food and foodstuff led me to think about breakfast. Breakfast inevitably leads me to think about visiting our favorite breakfast spot. There was a cache there deposited under the big boy's toe for years. It was finally archived in 2014. One thing leads to another and my desire for an excuse to go out for breakfast tomorrow morning led me to place a cache there. Dear seeker after truth and geocache hides, you needn’t take a circuitous path to find this hide. No bushwhacking, fence climbing or splash-walking is necessary. Just follow your GPSr. The Mandarin Duck was placed with the permission of the property owner. The business closes after lunch and it is recommended that you go ofter this cache only during daylight hours. Congratulations to DJBach for FTF
