Geocache Description:

Number 7 of a Connection-style series of puzzle caches requiring a bit of lateral thinking. This one leads to an all too familiar magnetic BYOP final. The cache itself can be found at an appropriate location.

Thanks very much to Jesmond Lynam who’s trusted me to expand his excellent Only Connect series of puzzle caches.

The rest of the series can be found by clicking on this link to the Only Connect bookmark list.

The cache is not hidden at the listed coordinates but it is within 2 miles of here; the final location has parking very nearby.

To find the final coordinates you’ll need to identify four people from the clues below and then find something to link them. The linking topic commands a very obvious numbering scheme which will give you a two digit number for each of the individuals. Combine that with the fifth number described below and plug them into the formula to get the final, appropriate, location which is similar to the other hides in the series.

The people are:
A = One of the greatest authors in English despite not being raised in an English-speaking country.
B = The UK's largest dish radio telescope
C = A tragic southern hemisphere explorer
D = A county town in the West Midlands region whose name refers to a river crossing and a landing place

E = The number of letters in the place where they all tried to go (one word).

The cache is hidden at N54 57.X W001 37.Y
Where:
X = (D x E + C) x B
Y= (B + A) x D x E - C
