Štatistický úrad Slovenskej republiky
Štatistický úrad SR je ústredným orgánom štátnej správy Slovenskej republiky pre oblasť štátnej štatistiky. Jeho postavenie upravuje zákon č. 575/2001 Z. z. o organizácii činnosti vlády a organizácii ústrednej štátnej správy v znení neskorších predpisov. Úrad plní úlohy podľa zákona č. 540/2001 Z. z. o štátnej štatistike v znení neskorších predpisov a úlohy stanovené ďalšími všeobecne záväznými právnymi predpismi. ŠÚ SR pôsobí ako samostatná inštitúcia od 1. januára 1993, dňa vzniku samostatnej Slovenskej republiky.
Úrad riadi predseda, ktorého vymenúva a odvoláva prezident SR na návrh vlády SR. Funkčné obdobie predsedu úradu je päť rokov. Pri ŠÚ SR je zriadená Štatistická rada ako stály odborný poradný orgán predsedu úradu pre oblasť štátnej štatistiky. Predsedom rady je predseda úradu, členmi sú menovaní odborníci pôsobiaci v oblasti štatistickej teórie a praxe.
Zákon NR SR č. 540/2001 o štátnej štatistike upravuje podmienky získavania štatistických informácií potrebných na posudzovanie sociálno-ekonomického vývoja, postavenie a pôsobnosť orgánov vykonávajúcich štátnu štatistiku, úlohy orgánov verejnej moci v oblasti štátnej štatistiky, práva a povinnosti spravodajských jednotiek, ochranu dôverných štatistických údajov pred zneužitím, poskytovanie a zverejňovanie štatistických údajov, zabezpečovanie porovnateľnosti štatistických informácií a plnenie záväzkov vyplývajúcich z medzinárodných zmlúv v oblasti štátnej štatistiky, ktorými je SR viazaná.
Štatistické zisťovania sa riadia vyhláškou Program štátnych štatistických zisťovaní na trojročné obdobia, ktorú zostavuje úrad v súčinnosti s ministerstvami a štátnymi organizáciami. Program obsahuje všetky dôležité a potrebné zisťovania vrátane zisťovaní vykonávaných inými ústrednými orgánmi a ministerstvami. Okrem zisťovaní zahrnutých v programe vykonáva úrad i osobitné zisťovania u fyzických osôb (napríklad sčítanie obyvateľov domov a bytov, poľnohospodárske súpisy a pod.).
Úlohy štátnej štatistiky okrem ústredia v Bratislave zabezpečuje aj osem krajských pracovísk ŠÚ SR so sídlom v Bratislave, Trnave, Nitre, Trenčíne, Žiline, Banskej Bystrici, Košiciach a v Prešove.
V súlade so zákonom o štátnej štatistike Štatistický úrad SR:

zostavuje v súčinnosti s ministerstvami a štátnymi organizáciami program zisťovaní,

určuje metodiku štatistických zisťovaní, zhromažďuje a spracováva štatistické údaje,

určuje metodiku vedenia systému národných účtov a zostavuje národné účty,
-
vytvára, zverejňuje a spravuje v súčinnosti s ministerstvami a štátnymi organizáciami štatistické klasifikácie, číselníky a registre,
-
určuje spôsob tvorby registrov, prideľuje a oznamuje identifikačné čísla,
-
vypracováva analýzy vybraných charakteristík sociálno-ekonomického a ekologického vývoja Slovenskej republiky,
-
spolupracuje s medzinárodnými orgánmi a organizáciami pri zavádzaní štandardov a klasifikácií v oblasti štatistiky,
-
organizuje a vykonáva reprezentatívne výskumy verejnej mienky o sociálno-ekonomických otázkach,
-
zverejňuje výsledky štatistických zisťovaní za SR a za jednotlivé územné a správne celky, pravidelne informuje verejnosť o sociálno-ekonomickom a demografickom vývoji, poskytuje štatistické informácie a vydáva štatistické publikácie a

plní ďalšie úlohy ustanovené zákonom.
Okrem úloh štátnej štatistiky plní ŠÚ SR špecifické úlohy v oblasti prípravy volieb a referend a spracovaní ich výsledkov.

EN: Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic is central body of state administration of the Slovak Republic for the branch of statistics. Its status is given by the Act No. 575/2001 Code of Acts on Organizational Activity of Government and the Organization Central State Administration in wording of later regulations. The Office carries out tasks by the Act No. 540/2001 Code of Acts on State Statistics in wording of later regulations and tasks determined by next generally valid legal regulations. The SO SR operates as independent institution since January 1, 1993, the day of formation of the independent Slovak Republic. The Office is leaded by president, who is appointed and removed by the President of the SR. The tenure of president of the office is given for 5 years. The SO SR has established the Statistical Council as permanent professional consultative body of the president of the office for the branch of state statistics. The head of the council is the president of the office, members are nominated experts from the branch of the statistical theory and practise. Act of the National Council of the SR No. 540/2001 on State Statistics regulates criteria for statistical information collecting necessary for assessment of socio-economic developments, position and competencies of bodies executing state statistics, roles of public bodies in the field of state statistics, rights and obligations of reporting units, protection of confidential statistical data vis-a-vis their misuse, provision and disclosure of statistical data, ensuring comparability of statistical information and fulfilment commitments arising from international treaties or agreements in the field of state statistics mandatory for the Slovak Republic. Statistical surveys are regulated by the Programme of State Statistical Surveys for three years period compiled by the office in collaboration with ministries and state organizations. The programme contains all important and essential surveys including surveys organized and executed by other central bodies and ministries. Besides surveys included in the Programme, the Office also executes specific surveys of natural persons (e.g. population census, census of area, etc.) Tasks of state statistics are ensured by the central office in Bratislava and eight regional offices with their seats in Bratislava, Trnava, Nitra, Trenčín, Žilina, Banská Bystrica, Košice a Prešov. In compliance with the Act on State Statistics the Statistical Office of the SR: elaborates and disclosures the conception of the state statistics; compiles in line with ministries and state bodies the programme of surveys; determines the methodology of state surveys, collects and processes statistical data; determines the methodology of the national account system keeping and compiles national accounts, creates, disclosures and administers statistical classifications, code lists and registers in line with ministries and state organizations; determines the way of registers creation, assigns and announces identification numbers; elaborates analyses of selected characteristics of socio-economic and ecology development of the Slovak Republic; co-operates with international bodies and organizations during the introduction of standards and classifications in the branch of statistics; organizes and executes representative researches of public opinion on socio-economic questions; disclosures statistical survey results for the SR and for individual territorial and administrative units, regularly informs the public on socio-economic and demographic development, provides statistical information and issues statistical publication and carries out next tasks determined by law. Except state statistics tasks the SO SR performs other specific tasks in the branch of election and referendum preparations and processing their results.
