Geocache Description:

This geocache was inspired by a class assignment to use one of the tools we had learned about in our Digital Earth class. I chose to do geocaching and use GPS as my tool. I have never registered a geocache but I have been on trips to find geocaches before so I thought it would be fun to do the hiding for once. I really enjoyed the experience and can't wait to do it again!

This was a great experience; from star to finish I had a lot of fun. Creating the cache was a blast! Making little items to put in the cache, designing the cache, and hiding the cache was awesome. When choosing the container, I felt it was good to have a medium sized one. This way people can put larger items in it and it is always more fun to find something that resembles a treasure chest. After I purchased my container, I felt it needed to have a little better camouflage, so I added some different colors so its standard blue wouldn't stand out so much against its background of sticks, grass, and rocks.

When making items to put in this container I looked around for things that I felt would be perfect for anyone. I made up a few different types of key chains out of 550 Para cord that I had lying around. I think geocachers of all ages will appreciate those.

I chose this location for a couple of reasons, one it is a place I am familiar with, and two it is out of the city. When I looked at the map of geocache's in my area I noticed a great deal of them in the Denver area. Yes, it would be nice to have hidden my cache in the city where more people may find it, I felt it would encourage more people to get out of the city and into more of the foothills when they see a new cache pop up.

When I went to hide it I started early in the morning, it was wonderful, no one was on the trail and it was a clear blue-sky day. I hiked around a couple different spots that I felt would be good for a cache like this one. The hike is nice, flat and gradual trails that will accompany hikers of all ages. It is roughly a 3 mile round trip from trail head to cache and back. There are several trails to choose from which lets you avoid the out and back on the same trail, which I always find nice to avoid. The trails and all areas around are definitely dog friendly so bring the whole group, just watch for cacti!

I hope you enjoy finding it as much as I did hiding it!
