Geocache Description:

The Nicomen Slough Water Fowl series is inspired by my dad who has been privileged to live and work alongside the Nicomen Slough and enjoys the rich variety of birds every day.  These eight geocaches represent a few of the varieties of waterfowl that make the slough their home (at least for a part of each year).  See if you can spot the eight different birds as you hunt for the caches --there is a photo to help you identify them on the underside of the cache lid.  Have fun and happy hunting ("geocache" hunting that is)   :)

NSWF #4  -American Coot

Also known as a "Mud Hen". Though commonly mistaken to be ducks, they belong to a distinct order. Unlike the webbed feet of ducks, coots have broad, lobed scales on their lower legs and toes that fold back with each step in order to facilitate walking on dry land. Groups of coots are called "covers" or "rafts". Males and females have similar appearances. Note: a special thanks to the Leq' a: mel First Nation for allowing us to place 5 of these caches on their and the Skweahm land.
