Eglinton is a village about six miles from Derry/Londonderry. It is a plantation settlement and was founded by the Grocers Company of London in 1619 who built a fortified bawn and eight houses as the start to the village. It was originally known as Muff but the village changed its name to Eglinton in 1858 to prevent confusion with a village of the same name in Donegal. It took its new name from the then Lord Lieutenant of Ireland who was the 13th Earl of Eglinton.
The cache is located on the main road into the centre of the village. It is a camouflaged micro and inside it is a separate, small, clear plastic conatiner which has the log in it to help keep it dry. Please replace the log carefully. The cache has room for a few small swops and is an old vitamins box with a child tamper lid. So to get it open squeeze and turn at the same time. The access road beside the cache leads to a school and is quiet enough to park at asides from school days in the early morning and mid-afternoon when traffic is more intense.
