When travelling long distances anywhere in Australia it is important to regularly stop and take a break. Tasmania is no different, although the state is smaller than some of the other states of Australia. The things that you see on a 4-5 hour drive in other states you can see in a 2 hour drive here and the lack of long straight stretches of road means that you need to be aware of upcoming curves and turns. This cache (and others planned in this series) is a good excuse to pull over and take a break, let the geo-minors go to the toilet, or have lunch etc whilst relaxing in shade of the trees beside the creek.
Situated at a rest stop on the way to Devonport North West of Launceston, this cache is one of many along the Bass highway to pull over, stretch your legs, use the toilet or have something to eat. Undercover picnic tables and BBQ facilities are provided. There are also 3 friendly local roosters who are regularly seen scratching around the grassy area and have been known to be tame enough to hand feed,
Nearby is the Conservatory, built in 1932 by bequest of the late John Hart, it is a twin copy of the conservatory, bulit at the same time, found in Launceston's city park that you can see a beautiful horticultural display in. Although this conservatory appears has been converted into a private residence.
On the opposite side of the road, you will see an apple orchard which until the last decade was the largest producer of apples in the state, extending right down into the gully from the top of the hill, before demand for local apples decreased.
It is good to note that the toilets are wheelchair accessable.
Happy Caching
Note: Due to feedback of difficulty finding this cache, it seems I may have underestimated how easy this would be to find, so have increased difficulty by 1/2 a point- nil other changes have been made to the cache.
