Geocache Description:

This cache is at the far end of the 7 km Canon Sheehan loop from the Glenanaar car park and cache. It is placed at a little distance from the Mass Rock to avoid being muggled.

Remember the Leave No Trace policy

Mass Rocks were used in the seventeenth and eighteenth century to celebrate mass when priests were outlawed. They were in isolated areas but for added security had lookouts posted around the area to warn of intruders.

This mass-rock, in Doneraile parish, came to light again in the early 1960s. It was rediscovered when forestry work was being carried out.

A Mass was said there in July 1984 and it has since become an annual event.

I prefer to walk the loop in an anticlockwise direction to leave the most scenic and interesting parts of the loop to the end. Much of the path is suitable for a buggy but you would have to be prepared to carry it for some sections. Please give your experience in your log if you chanced using it.
