This is the point where the Calne branch line crossed over the now disused Wilts and Berks canal. You can just about make out the line of the canal under all the vegetation. If you look closely at the cycle path near the metal gate, you can see the remains of the brickwork where the canal passed underneath. Stanley aquaduct was a short distance across farmland from here. As the railway line became more profitable, the canal saw less and less traffic. The last straw being the partial collapse of the aqueduct, which cut off the water to a substantial part of the canal system.
