Secrets abound. Codes and cyphers. Anagrams, Locks and bolts. Lemon juice ink and esreveR gnitirW. Tantalizing little hints strewn about.
This little gem gained its popularity from the 2003 Dan Brown novel "The DaVinci Code". In the novel and movie, the invention is credited to Leonardo DaVinci. Though no record of his ever inventing such a device has turned up,-- yet, --but who knows?
The idea could be as old as the 16th century, or as new as 2003.
Since I first saw it I have been a little fascinated by it. If you look on the internet, there are opposing opinions on whether or not it existed prior to the novel. I prefer to think that in the dark alleys of the 16th century it was hiding its secrets from those who did not have a clue to open it.
Having a little background in locks and security in my past life (pre-retirement) I figured it would make a good, if not insidious geocache.
I have yet to come across one in the field, so I decided what the heck, and started the build.
I figured maybe 8 hours start to finish. It was closer to 28. I was amazed at the amount of work that went into creating this and getting it to function right, all the time. Then I had to figure out how to get it to work best for the mass majority of people. So now it is more user friendly, BUT I just had to make it a little more difficult some other way. Soooooo....Though I have told you more than you see on page, I am not telling you how to find it. (Insert evil laugh here)
