Geocache Description:

Will soon begin archiving this series.

Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The District is a leader in its field providing the community with top quality parks and recreational opportunities while being responsible stewards of all our resources. The District’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned the District local appreciation and national acclaim. Each year the District records more than 7 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. Their slogan is “What do YOU do for fun? If you are reading this, one answer is probably Geocaching. The District is planning many special activities throughout the year. With that in mind, and with the District’s approval we bring you 60 JCPRD caches, one for each of their 60 years. This series highlights the District’s parklands with 15 different caches listed below. The outstanding parks and recreational resources managed by the District are among Johnson County’s most popular and valuable community assets. The tremendous popularity of their parks and the wide variety of recreational opportunities they provide is a reflection of the vital role the District plays in making Johnson County one of the most livable communities in America. Each park has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. Some of these caches are located at future parklands and some are located within existing parks. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!

This cache is for Antioch Park. JCPRD’s oldest park, purchased in 1956 and opened in 1958, Antioch Park was rededicated in 2005 following infrastructure improvements, facility upgrades and lake and wetlands enhancements. The 44 acre park features new or updated amenities such as two fishing lakes, walking path, tennis courts, 4 picnic shelters, basketball court, restrooms and playgrounds. For generations Dodge Town has been one of the most popular play areas in Johnson County. Dodge Town and its two adjoining playground areas are accessible and have recently been fully renovated and updated. Other park features include the Helen S. Cuddy Rose Garden in the Memorial Arboretum. The walkways of the Rose Garden and Arboretum allow a quiet place for leisurely strolls and a popular location for weddings. One last park feature is the Vietnam Memorial that honors the Johnson County men and women who gave their lives or are still reported Missing In Action. It is the first memorial in the metro constructed to honor those who served in the Vietnam War. Maybe you can relieve your childhood in Dodge Town while getting this well disguised cache. It is located just off a paved trail and will only required a short walk but watch out for all the muggles.
