<p>Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The District is a leader in its field providing the community with top quality parks and recreational opportunities while being responsible stewards of all our resources. The District’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned the District local appreciation and national acclaim. Each year the District records more than 7 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. Their slogan is “What do YOU do for fun? If you are reading this, one answer is probably Geocaching. The District is planning many special activities throughout the year. With that in mind, and with the District’s approval we bring you 60 JCPRD caches, one for each of their 60 years. This series highlights some of the District’s specialized departments and programs with 15 different caches listed below. Most of these areas are within the Safety and Outdoor Education and the Recreation Divisions and may not be as widely known as the Parks and Golf Course Division. Each specialty area has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. These caches are hidden in a variety of locations and not all will be on District land. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!</p>
<p>This cache is for the Park Police, the law enforcement half of the District’s Safety and Outdoor Education Division. The Park Police Officers serve to protect and preserve natural resources as well as maintain safety for visitors and staff in all District parks and facilities. The talented officers, when not providing law enforcement and safety, can be found in their other role leading outdoor interpretation and other programs. One of the most popular of these is the Heritage History Lab at Ernie Miller Park where these officers can be found portraying caricatures from Kansas history for several weeks to school children from all over the area. The headquarters for the Johnson County Park Police are located nearby in the John Barkley Visitor Center. They invite you to join in with them in maintaining the safety of District’s parks, facilities and adjoining neighborhoods.</p>
<p>This is a traditional cache but you may need to search high and low for it and even then a trusty TOTT will come in handy. The cache will require a bit a bushwhacking and could contain all those nasty Kansas PIT’s. Also you should park at the posted coordinates at the Walnut Grove parking lot to avoid a possibly less than pleasant meeting with the park’s finest. It is a short walk from there to the cache and you may well be joined by some disc golfers along the way. Have a great time and stay safe while enjoying all the District has to offer.</p>
