Stanley River played an important role in the early days of the timber getters. Bullock teams were used to haul logs from the forest to the sawmills, so areas of good pasture were needed to turn the bullocks loose at night. in 1878 the area stretching from the river, through Peachester and towards Mount Beerwah was declared a Reserve for pasture and water. The teamsters made camp on the riverbank and turned their bullocks out to graze on the stand of kangaroo grass. Some peach trees grew beside the water from seeds dropped at those camps, and the reserve became known as "The Peach Trees", in time giving the name to the township Peachester. There was a river crossing where the present track approaches the water. The vantage point provides a great view down the river.
