The story behind the boy can not be verified, but a popular version is that he was carrying water in his boot to Civil War soldiers. His boot had a hole in it so he held his hand over the hole to keep the water from leaking out. There are several statues of the boy with the boot around the country. Wadsworth was originally given a similar statue in 1896 as a Civil War memorial. That statue was melted down during World War II so the metal could be used to support the war effort. Seven decades later, a new statue was cast from a mold made from a similar one on loan from the city of Sandusky, Ohio. It was unveiled in 2014 as part of Wadsworth’s bicentennial celebration. The base of the fountain contains plaques donated by the American Legion with names of the fallen men and women of Wadsworth.

There is ample parking near the fountain and also near the final cache. To log this puzzle cache you must decipher the coordinates to the final container and sign the log contained in it. The container is small so it cannot accommodate trade items. Bring a pen to sign the log. Please put the container all the way back into it’s hiding place.
The final coordinates are N41 01.ABC W081 43.XYZ. Solve for A, B, C, X, Y and Z by completing the following:
A = The number of letters in the first word on the plaque on the East side of the fountain.
B = The number of black benches near the fountain that face the statue.
C = The number of names on the Vietnam War plaque with the first name “Donald.”
X = The number of times the letter “L” appears on the Korean War plaque.
Y = The number of letters in WWII soldier Ivan’s last name.
Z = Solve the following: Look at the WWI plaque. Find the second name in the first column, last name “Thomas.” Multiply the number of letters in that soldier’s first name by 3.
