The most well-known wharf in the area is Churchill’s Wharf which was a major port of call for the riverboats during the 1880s when river siltation was becoming an issue. It was during this period that Sackville became the head of navigation for seagoing vessels, thus linking Sackville to Sydney. Although the wharf doesn’t exist today, on very low tides what remains of the wharf piers can still be seen just below where the cache is hidden.
In 1883 a hand operated punt commenced operations next to Churchill’s Wharf. This punt was upgraded to a small power driven punt in 1930. Today the much larger ferry service is operated by the NSW Roads and Maritime and runs 24/7, taking approximately three minutes to cross the Hawkesbury River plus any loading / unloading times.
For the EG-Q Final Puzzle, you will need to work out how many return trips the ferry can make in a ten minute period.
