The legend of the Wiccademous takes place in the 1600s, when a young girl was accused of practicing witchcraft. She was brought to trial, found guilty and sentenced to hang for her crimes. Her body was then placed beneath an ancient oak tree. Her spirit has been wreaking havoc ever since.
According to witnesses, if you travel down the path to her grave, the ground will begin to shake violently and you will hear loud booming noises. Some people claim to have been grabbed and trapped by unseen hands, and others are certain they were followed home by her spirit and cursed with nightmares. There are people who tell stories of friends of friends who knew someone who went down the Path of the Wiccademous and vanished. The Wiccademous has also been accused of causing people to harm themselves by forcing them to jump into a nearby ravine.
A closer look at the history of Fernandina Beach shows no evidence of a settlement in the area in the 1600s, nor has it ever been reported that witchcraft was an issue.
