"I dare ya" Hike Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

jajakeiz: A lot of fond memories with this cache, but I am not longer in the area so it is time to go. Will find out if the travel bug is still in the cache.

Thanks to all who have visited this cache. Thanks to Kingofgame73 for collecting the container. Time to free up the spot.

Geocache Description:

I dare you to take this hike, do you have it in you?

If the following is your cup of tea, then you should accept this challenge:

  • Love to push yourself
  • Are in great shape
  • Have no issues with steep inclines
  • Think scenic views are awesome
  • Love feeling that sense of accomplishment, after completing a challenge
  • Would like to assend 3000 ft in elevation
  • Do not get angry when the only thing in the cache is a log book  (BYOP)

If the above list is not you, then this cache is probably not for you.  If you are up for the challenge, then please read on.

This is a multi-stage cache where you will see to see views like this:

The Details

At each stage you will find a marker to the next stage (I hope the muggles leave them alone).  The find at each one of these stages should not be too difficult and I will provide a hint for each.

Stage 1:  Is just off the trail at approximately 6300 ft.  If you don't mind going off the beaten path you can go directly up from here to get to stage 2.  Or go back to the path and follow the trail.  All of the other markers are near the trail. You should have also applied plenty of sunscreen by now.

Stage 2:  You have climed to 6870 ft at this stage.  Time to take a breather while you find the marker for the next stage. It's a good time to drink some water as well.

Stage 3:  Now at 7300 ft, another great opportunity to drink some more water and look for the next marker.

Stage 4: At 7791 ft, this is the last stage before the final.  Drink more water! You also may want to rest a bit, you are about to make the last push to the top.

Note: Due to an issue beyond my control, you are going to need to do some field math. Take the coordinate you find at this stage and:

  • Add 0.083 to the North coordinate
  • Add 0.037 to the West coordinate

Stage 5: You have made it to the top* at 8572 ft.  You are looking for a green Mighty Mega container. Perhaps eat some food before looking for it.

* There are at least three more caches in this area you may want to checkout.

Congratulations if you have accepted and completed the challenge.  Now I dare you to mark this as a favorite.

For the return, I do not recommend you go back the way you came, instead follow the Big Baldy Trail which runs east along the ridge line. This will take you to the Great Western Trail, which will lead you to the Dry Canyon Trail. This path is longer, however it is a much easier and more pleasant hike down.
