Geocache Description:

Spirit Quest - Lakeview Cemetery.

The cache is located inside the cemetery, but away from any known graves. As with any cemetery cache please be respectful of the grounds, and any possible visitors that might not understand what we are doing. The cache is NOT near any known graves.

The first known buriel at the Lakeside Cemetery was in 1882, and the last in 1966. It is believed that the Lion's Club may have watched over this cemetery in it's later years of operation, while it also operated the Maccabee Cemetery which is immediately to the north. In 1966 the Lion's Club turned the Maccabee Cemetery over to Lincoln county which operates it to this day. What happened at Lakeview is unclear, but after 1966 the cemetery became abandoned. This cemetery is located immediately to the south of Maccabee cemetery, and must be accessed from inside that cemetery. There are no known records for the cemetery and if it was ever plotted that is long gone too.

During 1999, Ronald Miller of Sprague, Washington attempted to repair and clean up this cemetery. He was able to clear out all of the brush and debris from the cemetery and began making repairs on damaged and broken stones. He was also able to count and record names and dates of 149 headstones in the cemetery which are the only known records for the cemetery. On August 24, 1999 he passed away suddenly, and the cemetery has seen little to no maintenance since then. With the exception of the small veterans section that does seem to get some occasional clearing work done.

Images below are what the cemetery looks like as of 3-22-15. The first time we visited this cemetery was in March of 2012. Almost three years later it looks pretty much the same, but is a little harder to move around in because of the brush growth.

You are looking for an oversized bison tube, oversized as in really big, think lock n lock sized but bison tube shaped. Hint should lead you right to it

While there are no posted hours, I ask that the cacher only search for this cache during daylight hours out of respect for the cemetery. While you are here please take your time and look around, and enjoy all of the history here, but remember to be respectful, since the cemetery has been inactive for the last 50 years, it is unlikely that you will run into any mourners, but please be respectful of the grounds and any possible visitors that might not understand what we are doing. The cache is NOT located near any known graves, but it is inside the cemetery. Also remember that this cemetery has to be accessed though the Maccabee cemetery which is still a currently active and maintained cemetery.

Congratulations goes to __________ for the First to Find!!!!!
