The Southern Upland Way wends a fine route over the hill from Galashiels to Yair Bridge. Leaving Gala through the wooded area known as the Policies, the route climbs through pasture and then enters another area of woodland.
I don't know if this woodland has a name but I've always been quite attracted to it. On cold windy days it provides welcome shelter and when the temperature gets too hot then it's an opportunity to linger in the shade. OK, OK, that doesn't happen too often...;-(
Passing through the woodland, you'll come across a bench, from which there are fine views of the Eildons. The cache is not far from the bench and no more than 3m or so from the path.
As well as being on the SUW, this trail is also part of the Meigle Circular route which forms part of the network of waymarked trails around Galashiels. Not all of them are shown on OS maps, but there are excellent booklets with maps available at tourist offices and they're also freely downloadable from Scottish Borders Council's website as PDF files. A series of them covers the entire region - highly recommended.
