Geocache Description:

Will soon begin archiving this series.

Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The District is a leader in its field providing the community with top quality parks and recreational opportunities while being responsible stewards of all our resources. The District’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned the District local appreciation and national acclaim. Each year the District records more than 7 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. Their slogan is “What do YOU do for fun? If you are reading this, one answer is probably Geocaching. The District is planning many special activities throughout the year. With that in mind, and with the District’s approval we bring you 60 JCPRD caches, one for each of their 60 years. This series highlights the District’s parklands with 15 different caches listed below. The outstanding parks and recreational resources managed by the District are among Johnson County’s most popular and valuable community assets. The tremendous popularity of their parks and the wide variety of recreational opportunities they provide is a reflection of the vital role the District plays in making Johnson County one of the most livable communities in America. Each park has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. Some of these caches are located at future parklands and some are located within existing parks. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!

This cache is for Kill Creek Park. One of JCPRD’s large regional parks, Kill Creek Park has many features. This park is adjacent to the TimberRidge Adventure Center in western Johnson County and Kill Creek Streamway Trail runs through the park. It’s beautiful natural setting is the home to four shelter houses, a swimming beach, a lake with a marina, 3 miles of paved shared use trails and over 12 miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails. Kill Creek Park provides some of the most beautiful and peaceful trails in the county. To continuing mixing up this series, you are challenged to a night cache. This cache is located along a horse trail below Kill Creek Park Lake. You will need a flashlight and to wait until after dark to make this find. You should park at the trailhead parking by Shelter #1 and follow the paved multi-use trail below the lake toward the west about .2 of a mile. This is where the horse trail crosses the paved trail. Turn left and head down the trail, when you enter the woods you will have arrived at the posted coordinates. From here when you shine your light you will see two eyes shining back at you from about 8 feet up in a tree. Don’t worry this is the way the trail is marked with reflective tacks. Follow the eyes as they appear hear and there as you move down the trail. When you see an arrow instead of eyes you are almost there. From this arrow look around for the smiley face that will be shining back at you. There are single reflective tacks if you need assistance getting back. This cache is not to far down the trail but the trail is dirt and rocks unless of course its mud and rocks The last 40 feet is off the trail and will require some bushwhacking. Have fun on this different cache and be sure to check on the closing hours for the park before starting after this one.<.p>
