Geocache Description:

Bats are a geocacher's best friend. One bat alone can eat up to 5,000 insects in one night! Bats are some of the most diverse, ecologically important and unique mammals on Earth. Time to toast these flying mammals and the work they do to reduce the population of Minnesota's state bird (aka the mosquito.)

Minnesota is home to seven species of bats ranging from the small tri-colored bat which weighs 0.2 oz to the large hoary bat which can weigh more than an ounce. Our most common bat species is the little brown myotis which spends its winters hibernating in caves, mines, hollow trees, and perhaps even your attic. Other Minnesota bats are the northern myotis, the big brown bat, the silver-haired bat, and the Eastern red bat. Bats are a vital part of our environment and are worth celebrating.

Join fellow geocachers as we raise a toast to bats and discuss bat (and other wildlife) encounters that we have had while we were out geocaching.
