Eastcombe Baptist Church enjoys a central location in the village of Eastcombe, close to the local pub and Post Office Stores.
The foundation stone was laid on May 22nd 1800 and opened for divine worship on August 4th 1801. It underwent renovation including the addition of a bell tower and clock around 1860. Around 450 people took tea after the reopening service, not a bad turnout for a small village! The interior is divided by cast-iron arcades of five bays supporting galleries around three sides and there is a barrel vault over the centre space.
Inside the chapel there are monuments to Rev. Thomas Williams, the founder and first pastor, and Phoebe, his widow. There are also monuments to Richard Faulkes and his wife, Esther, and to Henry Hook and others.
The chapel is still very much in use today.
To find the cache, first make your way across the road to the burial ground and locate the headstone for Stanley George Johnson and his wife Alice Mayberry Johnson. Stanley passed away on AB.C.1954 and Alice on 0D.0E.1978.
