Barna Barrow Quarry had been worked for less than two months when it closed for good on 1st April 1911.
The rare Olaf Proil lizard,first identified in Southern Norway,was found to inhabit the site. It was the first time that a quarry had been closed down to protect the habitat of a rare species. You may be lucky and get to see this lizard which still thrives in the area today.
