Geocache Description:

War Memorial cache #74 We will remember them ~Sacriston

This is quite a small memorial which does not include any names of heroes that have lost their lives. It was originally unveiled on 9th July 1981 and moved due to a building development, which became a Tesco. The google satellite images are currently wrong and will show the old building.

This is a multi-cache and can be found by working out the coordinates from the clues below. The actual cache can be found a short walk away at N 54° 49.ABC W 001° 37.DEF

A = Number of names on the memorial
B = Number of letters in the first word on the second stone down from the cross
C = Number of letters in the last word on the memorial
D = Number of letters in the second word on the third stone down from the cross
E = Number of words on the second stone down from the cross minus 10
F = Number of letters of the words in the last line of the memorial divided by 2

Checksum for numbers is 29

There are literally thousands of War memorials around the country. WW1 Memorials were usually raised through public subscription to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. This year 2014 is also the centenary of the start of the First World War it's about time there was a series dedicated to War Memorials. There is an un-numbered series in Scotland called Lest we forget. The name of this series We Shall remember them, was chosen from the very moving poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon. It is well worth searching out and reading.”
