C.F. 66 - Battleships Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Wiser than Owls: It’s time for these to go as the area is vastly different now due to urban expansion. The containers have been collected. I look forward to other geocachers placing appropriate caches in the area.

Battleships.

This cache is a tribute to the great old game of battleships. It was inspired by a number of similar caches from overseas. In the game of battleships, you would place your “battleships” on an 11x11 grid, whilst your opponent did the same thing. The objective of the game was to guess where your opponent’s battle ships were before they guessed where yours were. The idea of this cache is very similar. Somewhere in Australia there is a “virtual battleship”, you will need to use the geo-checker to guess where this “virtual battleship” is. Once you have guessed the correct co-ordinates, then the battleship is sunk and your reward is the correct co-ordinates for this cache.

Please note that the geocache is not at the same co-ords as the “virtual battleship”. As per the rules, the geocache is placed within 3kms of the posted co-ordinates. The virtual battleship could be anywhere in Australia!

That’s impossible, I hear you say. Well no, it is not. The thing is, with every guess of the geochecker, it will tell you approximately how far you are away from the “virtual battleship”. It won’t tell you in which direction, but after a few guesses and a bit of deduction, you should be able to work it out. Also, the closer your guesses get to the “virtual battleship” the more accurate the approximated distances you get back from the geochecker.

So without further to do, you can begin. For a bit of fun, although purely optional of course, in your online log let us know how many guesses it took you before you had a correct response!
