This walk takes you along the grey, sandy beach at Laggan Bay, look out over the expanse of Loch Buie and you might see the Paps of Jura in the distance. You'll see St Kenneth's Chapel (Caibeal Mheamhair) at the far side of the beach. The chapel or mausoleum is walled and is clustered within a group of trees. The gaelic name translates roughly to "chapel of remembrance". The chapel was renovated in 1864 and turned into a mausoleum for the MacLeans of Loch Buie. IT was renovated again in 1972 by the current owners, the Corbett family. The first recorded burial took here took place in 1701 and not much more is known about the chapel before then. The building has a slightly eerie feel to it and it well worth a look inside. No doubt you'll spot Castle Moy, a 15th century tower house which is undergoing renovations. It was last lived in back in 1752.
Drum Fada will be the peak to the south, behind the mausoleum, but you'll still be very aware of the looming peak of Ben Buie nearby to the north. The area is great for wildlife inlcuding marine species like seals, porpoise and otter. Both species of eagle can be spotted and the area is also fantastic for some rare species of plant and lichen.
