Geocache Description:

The co-ords bring you to the front of Northallerton Methodist Church, which in 2015 celebrates 150 years of worship at its present site. The chapel was built on ground previously  'The Pack Horse' Inn and the foundation stone was laid by Thomas Sadler Esq. of Bedale. The engraved trowel used can be seen inside.

The rear was rebuilt in the 1990s and the church interior was remodelled at the same time, but the church building itself is unchanged apart from new doors. There was also a Primitive Methodist church in Northallerton and that congregation built a new chapel in 1891.

The main streams of Methodism were united in 1932, forming "The Methodist Church" as it is today but this one and the Primitive Methodist buildings both continued in active use after the Union. The former Primitive building was closed in the early 1960s and is now owned by a local business. The congregation moved to a new building in Romanby a then, and still, developing residential area out of the town centre.

A leaflet outlining points of interest in a short tour around the building is available and on Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 10am to noon, the church is open and visitors are welcome to look round.

Methodist churches in the UK are each part of a “Circuit”, which is a group of churches served by one or more ordained Ministers, including a Superintendent Minister, and local lay preachers. Methodist Churches in this area are in the Thirsk & Northallerton Circuit of some 12 churches ranging from small village chapels to larger town churches such as this one.

The information visible from the pavement at the front of the church lets you work out the co-ordinates where you should find the final micro cache.

As you approach the final cache co-ords, at the end of the snicket, look up right and you might see the reason for linking these two places. The building facing you at the final cache is mentioned in the description.

The cache contains only a log so you will need a pen or pencil to record your visit

Tweezers might help BUT PLEASE Please, when replacing it DO NOT push it into its hidey hole any further than the first joint of your fingers as it is then too difficult for smaller cachers to extract.

If anybody would like to expand  this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first at churchmicro@gmail.com so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
