Geocache Description:

A lovely 1km trail with spectacular views along the coast.

This is the second cache that we have created. I have been coming to the Storms river rest camp annually for the last 30 years and have very many fond memories. The tradition has continued now with my own family and kids who have been begging to place their own cache. We visit Storms river annually and will check up on the cache when we can.

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Yellowwood trees, our home has one in the garden and our house is named Under Yellowwood

Start the Lourie Trail from the eastern end, a relatively steep climb will bring you to the look out deck, with a magnificent view. Stage 1 location given is for the lookout deck which can be reached from either end of the 1km Lourie trail. Plettenberg Bay is towards the West and Jeffreys Bay to the east. With some luck you might even spot a school of dolphin cruising the coastline.

EDIT December 2016 - Well it seems that my puzzle is a little to puzzling, I have made the final coordinates visible the puzzle below can still be completed if you are up for the challenge. The name of the lookout deck is on the eastern end of the trail signed marked on the road. While at the deck Count the number of vertical posts surrounding the deck. Where the number is AB i.e. 18 would be A=1 B=8

What is the name of the view point?

The name is given on the description of the Lourie trail on SANParks website and on the information boards at the start of the trail. You can't quite see the southern most point of Africa from where the lookout deck takes it's name.

The C,D,E,F,G,H,I represent the name of the lookout where the value of the letter is the position in the alphabet i.e. A=1 B=2 C=2 .... Z=26

e.g. Lookout L=12 O=15 O=15 K=11 therefore C=12 D=15 E=15 F=11 etc. Now.. the location of the cache is at

S 34.(B-C)E(A-B)(A-C) E 23.G(G+B)(F+H)(A+B+H)

You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.

After a refreshing stop it is time for the next stage, cross over "draw bridge" and head west. Keep a look out and you will soon find a trail named after the smallest antelope in South Africa. There are four yellowwood species in South Africa they two of them are found along this trail. The first one you will encounter is the Outeniqua Yellowwood these giants of the forest can live for hundreds of years and tower up to 50 meters. Then you will encounter a Real Yellowwood (at our home our family we have dinner under the branches of this type)

Have a look and a short distance from the trail you should see another Outeniqua Yellowwood, the cache is at the base of this towering giant.

An entry fee for the park is payable, but if you have a wild card entry is free. While visiting the park be sure to enjoy the river mouth trail and admire the spectacular views that the park has to offer.

From the SAN parks site:

The Lourie Trail (1km - 1 hour)
This is a 1km walk through the forest and is relatively easy, taking 1 hour to complete. It is a must for those people who have never experienced the splendor of the indigenous forest. The Lourie trail emerges onto plateau at the lookout point, after a brief uphill climb. The trail then passes through a short section of fynbos, before continuing through the spectacular coastal forest.

Outeniqua Yellowwoods:Bark flakes in round or rectangular shapes. Bluish yellowish leaves, 30 to 50mm long, 3 to 5 wide. Tallest indigenous forest tree in SA. Real Yellowwoods: Bark fissured along length of trunk and peels in strips. Glossy dark green or even dull bluish green leaves. Narrow, elliptic 60 to 150mm long and 5 to 13 wide. Henkel's Yellowwood: has the really long leaf - 60 to 300mm - but isn't indigenous to this area.
