The church was rebuilt in brick in 1754. The bell, thought to be an early 17th century creation, was retained but the church was deconsecrated in 1971.
The village was a civil parish in its own right but since 1946, it has been part Willingale parish.
Bill Bryson noted the village in his book Notes From A Small Island, noting that the name of the village has one of those typically strange and/or mildly amusing British place names.
