The cache has been placed here so that you may view (from a distance) the wonderful ‘Lawrenny.’
The property is on the Lyell Highway between Hamilton and Ouse.
The history of the ‘Lawrenny Estate’ dates back to 1813 when the land was granted to Edward Lord. He named the property after the family estate in Wales. Following Lord’s death in 1859 W.J.T. Clark purchased the estate and his son Joseph inherited ‘Lawrenny' in 1874 and in 1883 he built the very handsome, Henry Hunter designed, two storey sandstone house. The property was then sold to H. T. Brock in 1896 and was retained by the Brock brothers until it became part of the soldier settlement scheme after the Second World War. This whole area along the river Clyde then became a series of 200 acre dairy farms.
