Youth Park locates in an old district of Taipei - Wanhua.
Due to the convenient water transport from Tamsui habour in early Qing dynasty (1723 A.D.), thriving bussiness activities brought Wanhua to become the birthplace of Taipei.
However, Wanhua had declined with modernization.
Though it is not the downtown of Taipei now, people who ever experinced the flourishing Wanhua still live in here.
Thus, despite the park called "Youth Park", it also got an opposite nickname - "Elder Park".
Youth Park was used to be a millitary-training place in Japanese ruled period.
In 1914, the first flight of Taiwan was taking off at this place.

Before long, the place was rebuilt as an airport, South Airport.
After Taiwan Restoration, it was separated into two parts.
The farther part from the river became a golf culb, while the riverside part once became a tyburn for criminal public execution. Those who died here includes many innocent people in White Terror.
After that, the golf park was reconstructed in 1974 and became the Youth Park today.
As for the riverside part, it was finally rebuilt in 2000 as "Machangding Memorial Park" for those who sacrificed in White Terror period.
There are many beautiful scenery and leisure facilitates in this park.
Everyone can relax here and feel some "old Taipei" atmosphere here.
