Geocache Description:

In 1695, Thomas Powell bought 10,000 acres from the Massapequa, Secatog and Matinecock Indians.  The Powell family owned a 165-acre farm located at this cache site and on north, into the present Old Bethpage Village Restoration. The Powell Farmhouse is the only building that was originally located at the site before it was purchased by the county.

Nassau County acquired the Powell property and began to populate it with the endangered homes and barns.  On some 200 acres of rolling hills, more than 55 historic buildings -- all original structures saved from destruction and moved to the site - provide the setting for costumed interpreters to portray farmers, teachers, store keepers, blacksmiths and the others who made up a community of the mid-1800's. While on the subject of history, note that the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway ran a few yards north of GZ and one of the bridges is 200 yards northeast.

Directions: Get onto Spagnoli Road in Old Bethpage and look for a facility where people can "safely ice skate" on the north side the road.  Park in the northwest corner of the L-shaped parking lot and head in on foot, northwest to GZ. These woods are a buffer between the Spagnoli Road businesses and the Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

For those who feel that they don't quite "measure up" to grabbing this one… there is a black item at the end of a cable that may come in handy.
