Geocache Description:

Choosing to cherish our wild places will ensure that our children and theirs, will never reach a time when all the wild things have gone.

Bisley Valley is one of our development-hungry city’s last truly wild places. It was here in this reserve that I found my first cache and now I give it to others to enjoy the trail.

This thorn veld reserve is 250 ha and managed by the Msunduzi Municipality. It is an easy area to walk, and contains excellent bushveld birds, plus giraffe, Impala and Zebra.

Watch out for giraffe, they have lost their fear of humans, keep your distance.

Giraffes only spend between 10 minutes and two hours asleep per day. They have one of the shortest sleep requirements of any mammal.

Giraffes only need to drink once every several days; they get most of their water from the luscious plants they eat.

Browsing animals eat the  Acacia leaves together with the thorns, the latter more easily when young and soft. The older, hardened thorns can be a deterrent to over-browsing.

The security gate to the horse stables is ALWAYS closed but not locked and can be pushed open The gate MUST be left closed after entering or leaving the reserve. . Follow the signs to the picnic / parking. Here at parking the hinge gate is always locked but there is foot access gate.
