<p>Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The District is a leader in its field providing the community with top quality parks and recreational opportunities while being responsible stewards of all our resources. The District’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned the District local appreciation and national acclaim. Each year the District records more than 7 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. Their slogan is “What do YOU do for fun? If you are reading this, one answer is probably Geocaching. The District is planning many special activities throughout the year. With that in mind, and with the District’s approval we bring you 60 JCPRD caches, one for each of their 60 years. This series highlights some of the District’s specialized departments and programs with 15 different caches listed below. Most of these areas are within the Safety and Outdoor Education and the Recreation Divisions and may not be as widely known as the Parks and Golf Course Division. Each specialty area has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. These caches are hidden in a variety of locations and not all will be on District land. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!</p>
<p>This cache is for JCPRD’s Field Biologist. JCPRD is committed to maintaining the health and diversity of our natural resources through active and responsive stewardship. The Field Biologist has many responsibilities but a couple of higher profile ones stand out. One is the over site of the popular fisheries program which includes raising much of their own stock in rearing ponds at Shawnee Mission Park. Another is the management of native prairies around the District. They plant new, restore old, maintain and seasonally burn prairies all over the county and are beginning their own seed program. Originally this cache was going to be placed on the Kill Creek Park native prairie, a great example of tallgrass prairie in its native state. It instead is placed on the future Cedar Niles Park which will adjoin The Prairie Center along with other public sites. The Prairie Center provides a safe parking site for this cache while featuring a tallgrass prairie system like the District has. JCPRD’s Field Biologist works hard to provide a safe natural environment for recreational activities while you work to find this cache. You will be looking for a cache that blends in with its setting. You will need to bring your own pen and tweezers might help.</p>
