Geocache Description:

Many early caches were named for where they were placed. Here's one to carry on that tradition.

Placed with permission. Mind the landscaping!

Placement coincides with the grand reopening of the museum; if it is open while you're there, stop in to visit and to get a souvenir!

This cache is located where natives met to swap furs and goods; they would meet at the 'Skint Chestnut Tree' (the bark was stripped off to make it more conspicuous; hence the name). This area became GZ for Douglas County in 1870 and Douglasville in 1875. There are current references to this location; a street in Lithia Springs and a local amateur amateur radio group. This cache was published to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of geocaching and to pay homage to the sport. In May of 2000, who would have thought that there would be millions of caches... let alone two in one town; what was the plan for naming another one in Mingo? 😯

The cords will take to you a time capsule marker that was placed in 1970 (to be opened in 2070); from there travel a scant 804 inches on a bearing of 216° to the final (67 feet Southwest). Please make sure muggles aren't watching from inside the museum and hide back just so it can't be seen; you'll know what I mean.
