Geocache Description:

Will soon begin archiving this series.

Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The District is a leader in its field providing the community with top quality parks and recreational opportunities while being responsible stewards of all our resources. The District’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned the District local appreciation and national acclaim. Each year the District records more than 7 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. Their slogan is “What do YOU do for fun? If you are reading this, one answer is probably Geocaching. The District is planning many special activities throughout the year. With that in mind, and with the District’s approval we bring you 60 JCPRD caches, one for each of their 60 years. This series highlights the District’s trails with 15 different caches listed below. The District maintains over 70 miles of trails for all types of users. These trails include surfaced multi-use, nature, hiking, mountain biking and equestrian. Each featured trail has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. Some of these caches are located at future trail sites and some are located along existing trails. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!

This cache is for the Blue River Streamway Park Trail. In the future this trail could stretch along the Blue River and Camp Branch Creek, linking trails and parks (including the new Camp Branch Glade) together. Currently there is a little less than a mile and a half of paved, multi-use trail running along a wetland habitat near the Wilderness sub division. This beautiful wetland restoration provides habitat for a wide range of wildlife and birders should bring their binoculars to enjoy the waterfowl. Please respect the private sub division and while there is no trailhead parking the Blue River Elementary School is just north of the trailhead a should be all right to park at. This is a nice flat easy walk through and around the wetlands. You will be looking for a small camo LnL about one half mile down the trail. It is not far off the trail but watch out for thorns and other PIT’S and please re-hide well. Hope you find plenty of wildlife and a cache.
