Mae West

"Come on and see me sometime!"

Mary Jane "Mae" West (August 17, 1893 – November 22, 1980)[1] was an American actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, and sex symbol whose entertainment career spanned seven decades. My fascination with her stems from the fact that she grew up in nearby Woodhaven, the same town that my parents' grew up in.

Known for her bawdy double entendres, West made a name for herself in vaudeville and on the stage in New York before moving to Hollywood to become a comedienne, actress, and writer in the motion picture industry. In consideration of her contributions to American cinema, the American Film Institute named West 15th among the greatest female stars of all time. One of the more controversial movie stars of her day, West encountered many problems, including censorship. When her cinematic career ended, she continued to perform in Las Vegas, in the United Kingdom, and on radio and television, and to record rock and roll albums. Asked about the various efforts to impede her career, West replied: "I believe in censorship. I made a fortune out of it."

For those wishing to visit her crypt, she can be found on the second floor to the right of the stairway, on the right side of the hallway. There is a sign denoting her location on the wall and well as a sign on the floor below where she can be found.

Now to the cache: When you arrive outside the Abbey's entrance, go to the following coordinates which are listed as an additional waypoint was well. N40 41.820 W073 52.645 Here you will find a gravestone with the following names on it: Margaret, Leopold and Else. The dates on this marker will be used to calculate the coordinates to the cache. As always, when visiting a cemetery, please be respectful while here!
