Gilbert Parker was born in Chelmsford on 27 March 1797 and died in Westford on 13 June 1874. The historic Gilbert Parker House, built about 1723 and destroyed by fire in 1913, gave its name to Parkerville. The house was described as a “big house and barn with a double walled room for protection against Indian raids.”

It was located near the present entrance to the Jack Walsh Recreation Area parking lot on Carlisle Road. The Jack Walsh Recreation Area was named in 1985 in memory of John J. “Jack” Walsh (1939-1980), who was active in bringing youth sports to Westford.
This cache was placed as part of the Westford Museum & Historical Society's Parkerville Tour. Parkerville (also called Parker Village) was developed in the Colonial Period as a farming neighborhood and settled in part by members of the Parker family who came from Westford’s parent town of Chelmsford. The Parker Village Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
