The Gateway to Olympia Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: Hi There

As the owner has not responded to either my log or my colleague's previous log requesting that they check this cache I am archiving it.

Please note that once the cache has been archived, this can not be undone. This is explained in the Help Center - http://support.groundspeak.com//index.php?pg=kb.page&id=70

You will need to create a new listing, put it back in for review and as long as it meets today's guidelines and no other caches have been published in the area causing a proximity problem, then it will be published.

Regards

Geocache Description:

In 1892 a recreation/sports ground called Olympia was opened in Douglas. It lay between Victoria Road and Upper Dukes Road and could be accessed from the Promenade via a track that led up through an elaborate archway from, what was then, the top of Mona Drive.

Many of the buildings in the photo are still there but the archway itself was demolished when Mona Drive was extended to follow the track up to Olympia. This cache lies a short distance along this route and contains a few swaps and an unactivated TB for the FTF.  There is roadside parking right at GZ (but beware that this section of road is one way in the direction of the Prom) The cache can be retrieved from the pavement - no need to go scrambling up the bank!! GPS signal can be a bit iffy due to the trees and buildings but the hint should get you there if you have any trouble. If you fancy a short walk from here, I've also placed a cache near to where the sports ground itself would have been.  Olympia cache
