Glenside Gocery Store, which was located on this property, has been gone for years but I have many fond memories of it. My Aunt Rose and Uncle Bob Helm ran a small neighborhood grocery store here during the 1940's and 1950's. Uncle Bob built the store and they lived in an apartment upstairs. There was a beautiful flower garden in the back and many of the local kid's hand prints were embedded in the sidewalk. This store was a local hangout for the neighbors living nearby.... The Mentzers, Gales, Masons, Frolichs, McCarters, Schindels, Ludwigs, Wilsons, McClains, and many more. It was an exciting and busy place when vendors brought their goods - three bread vendors brought fresh bread daily, fresh milk was delivered each morning, fresh meat was delivered weekly, soda vendors and others came by on a schedule. The back door lock was opened with a "skeleton key" that was placed over top of the door. Neighbors were free to use this entry system on the honor system to get what they needed after hours. Lots of good memories!
CONGRATULATIONS TO GEOSPILLZ FOR THE FTF!
