Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series of caches along the beautiful Warhill Sports Complex multi-use trail commemorating those who influenced the English settlement of James City County, and by extension, the United States. The trail is 3.5 miles long, but has many exit and entrance locations, which you can find here. Deodorant stick sized camo'd container.

It is said that we all owe British Colonization of North America's Atlantic Coast to Bartholomew Gosnold.  Having heard Hakluyt's lectures in college and sailing under Walter Raleigh, Gosnold became an ardent supporter of English colonization of the new world. Without his tenacious efforts, we would not have had James I's cooperation nor corporate partners willing to fund the Virginia Company.  Of the many advocates who pushed for Virginia colonization, he was one of the few who sailed here. In fact, he was Vice Admiral of the three ships that sailed to Jamestown under Christopher Newport's admiralty, commanding the ship GODSPEED. He died during that first harsh summer, in August of 1607, here in James City County. Read more about Gosnold from britishheritage.com and the Daily Press article about how Gosnold's Hope Park in Hampton got its name.

From the trail, don't bushwhack straight to the coordinates. Rather, find a break in the bushes/trees a few yards to the south of the trail's sharp turn, then walk the few yards through the trees back up to the coords. If it takes more than a minute or two to find the cache, please check the hint. The trail is open from 7 am until sunset.

Thanks to James City County for keeping up such a beautiful trail and letting us cache here!
