This is an easy multi-cache along the Lakes to Locks Trail system of Washington Water Trails (WWTA). Feel free to find access to the water at these points in one day, different days or just skip to the white sand beach next to the Elks Club in Ballard :) . This is meant to be fun and accessible!
The Lakes-to-Locks Watertrail provides access to the water for boats and foot traffic! This is just a portion of the trail - the entire trail goes from the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (often nicknamed the Ballard Locks) to Issaquah. In this case we will be going from South Lake Union past the locks exploring access points to the water.
Start on Westlake at the South Lake Union dock, go to the 6th Avenue Pocket Park and finish at a nice beach near Shilshole which is a link to our Cascadia Marine Trail. This can be accomplished by boat (if you go through the locks), bike, on foot or by car!
At Waypoint 1: Count how many pilings are attached to the dock. Let that number fill in the blanks below, to make the coordinates for Waypoint 2: N 47° 39.165 W 1__° _1.835
There is plenty of parking (although you may need to pay) and you can access the next stop by water or land.
At Waypoint 2: Count the number of benches you see at this location. Let that number fill in the blanks below, to find the coordinates for the final location (one of the best public access beaches in the neighborhood thanks to the Elk's Lodge :) ) of the cache: N 47° 40.495 W _22° 24.495
You can travel by water (but you will have to boat through the locks at your own risk) or on land to find these caches.
