Geocache Description:

The National Trust has owned and looked after Ware since 197?. This little pocket of tranquil grassland sits above the bustling coastal town of Lyme Regis and is great spot for a quiet stroll or picnic. The site is accessible on foot from the nearby Holmbush Pay & Display Car Park (level walk) and the town via the Coast Path (steep climb, lots of steps!).

Ware is the western most part of the Dorset Coast. Heading west on the Coast Path you reach Devon at The Crow’s Nest. A short distance further westwards, on the Coast Path, is the access to the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs – National Nature Reserve.

Close to the cache site there is a view point with extensive views over the town and The Cobb out into Lyme Bay with Portland in the distance.

When square-rigged sailing ships ruled the waves Lyme Bay could be a dangerous place. Before the advent of engines, a ship that came to close inshore seeking shelter from a storm was in grave danger of being driven ashore and wrecked. Between 1600 and 1900 over 100 ships were wrecked in the bay.

The cache is a small clip-top box, with log book, pencil, etc. There is room for small tradables or travel bug.
