This cemetery is the resting place of many of the pioneer families of the area which came from the United States and the British Isles. Several militia veterans of the War of 1812 are also buried here. Their graves are marked with a black granite plaque. The medal design on the plaques is a copy of the actual medal which the veterans were to have received after the war. Debate over who would receive the gold version of the medal and who would receive the silver edition endured frrom 1813 to 1840, long after many of them had died. There are eight War of 1812 veterans buried here if you would like to look at the plaques.
Please bring your own writing instrument; tweezers might also be a good idea.
