The Martinsburg-Berkeley County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and WVTim partnered to place this new (2015) and very unique Geotrail. There are 15 geocaches in this exciting new trail. Most of the caches are “gadget” caches, typically easy to find, but where the cacher will have to do “something” to access the log.
The first 450 households to find 13 of the 15 will earn their MCBC trackable geocoin. Each site will have a code word to collect. Rack cards to record these words can be picked up at the I-81 rest stops or at the Berkeley County Covention and Visitors Bureau.
The Berkeley County Convention and Visitors Bureau is located at 126 East Race Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401. Their phone number is (304-264-8801). Open 7 days a week; 9am – 5 pm weekdays and 9:00-4:00 weekends. For more information on visiting Martinsburg and surrounding areas, visit Martinsburg Visitor's Center.
Coins will NOT be mailed out. Please refer to the passport for complete validation instructions. We request that all family units, having more than one Geocaching.com caching account, accept one (1) MCBC coin for the trail. This enables us to spread the most smiles to those who visit Mystery Caches of Berkeley County Geotrail. We appreciate your cooperation and hope that you enjoy the trail.
Each cache is very different and sometimes very challenging. We hope to make your time here in our beautiful county one you won’t soon forget. You will feel certainly feel a sense of accomplishment when you earn this coin.
Geocachers have awarded the caches in Berkeley County over 17000 favorite votes, making Berkeley County one of the best caching counties in the country. We hope you plan a caching trip here soon. WVTim and the Berkeley County Visitor's Center understand favorite votes are "earned" and we THANK YOU ! Because you have appreciated this trail, we are introducing a new trail in June of 2016, Smart Caches of Berkeley County (GC67954) all these caches start with SCBC
This Whereigo is filled with history, intrigue and humor. Like the name suggests, it will take you back in time. Get your game face on, when you start this game, the excitement begins. Make sure you have your volume UP on your smart device when you start, you don't want to miss a thing. Most of it will have you walking from "zone to zone" and doing "all sorts of things", around the historic Belle Boyd House (now home to the Martinsburg Berkeley County Visitor's Center) and the Historic Round House. The final is less than a mile away. It will most likely take you about and hour to complete. Take your time, read the signs in this area filled with history. Bring the kids along, they will love it.
The listed coordinates are for starting the cartridge NOT the cache.
Note: Garmin no longer supports Wherigo Cartridges. Please use the app, "WhereYouGo" which can be found in the Google Play Store, Amazon Android Store or iTunes. These cartridges work best on Android and Apple devices. Interpretation - you WILL need a smart device.
More information about Wherigo can be found here: Wherigo Website. If you don't have a Whereigo register a user name, its easy and free. Make this your first, but not your last Whereigo.
Please download the cartridge here:
Try this : After downloading, turn off your phonee, then back on, sometimes that helps the cartridge work.
The cache container has your code word needed for your passport so be sure to write it down. The final is in a very high muggle area. Please, to protect the final, only reach for the cache when NO ONE can see you.
Thanks to Michael Porter, spikep, for developing this whereigo cartridge. He spent countless hours making sure you would enjoy your time here. If you know spikep, you will see his humor shining thru on this cartridge. Thanks spikep !
