Nice view of the twin bridges of Yacka. The train bridge which is no longer in use and the car bridge which is used by many
Yacka Township is situated on the Banks of the Broughton River with Fertile cropping land and grazing land areas. The Town ship has actually had 3 bridges being build over many years. As to begin the only way across this big River was through a natural ford it did have a hard base but in Winter the crossing was dangerous due to the strong currents and the deep holes. During the year of 8176 the first Bridge was build from Jarrah timber, Gum Pillars were driven into the ground to a depth of 12 to 14 feet. Over time the Bridge did suffer being washed away in flood waters, the Bridge was reinstated made of wood but after a second flooding and the Bridge became Dilapidated and considered unsafe. Under the Government assistance a New Bridge was built over 2 years it took.The New Bridge was then Built from Reinforced Concrete costing over 5,000 pounds, built by contractors Messra,Nicol and Oliver. In August 2015 the New Bridge was Opened with the Commisioner of Crown Lands Hon. C Goode and Mr H N Barwell MP arrived by Train to Yacka , Local School children Sang "Song Of Australia". His excellency marched to the bridge site, He handed a pair of scissors to Mrs Hill wife of the Chairman of the Council to cut the Ribbon across the Bridge. The Bridge was then officially opened and traffic driving over this structure. The railway line Bridge is along side of the Road Traffic Bridge which is closed now as the train line is no longer in use.
