Our horses only get the best food. About every 2-3 months we drive to Orland to get 12 barrels of Stable mix pellets. We used to feed hay but the horses waste it. Pelleted food has no waste and doesn't mold. We add water to it so the horses get plenty of water. During cold winters, horses tend to not drink as much water. They can colic really easily.
