This is a lovely woodland at anytime of year but visit in the spring and it is truly fabulous; a carpet of Bluebells and if you are really lucky you might hear the song of the Nightingale. Enter the reserve from Kirdford Road just past the Skiff Lane junction (there is a nature reserve sign at the entrance next to a fallen tree). Having found the Geocache please feel free to explore further and enjoy this classic English Woodland.
This is a nature reserve, owned by the Sussex Wilslife Trust. It is considered to be an Ancient Woodland which means that there has been continuous tree cover since at least the 16th Century at probably for much longer. It is typical of the woodlands of this part of Southern England, full of Bluebells and Wood Anemones in spring and home to many species of woodland bird including the Nightingale. To hear the lovely song of this bird much beloved by romatic poets it is best to visit in the early morning or towards dusk.
