Geocache Description:

FTF honours to angels55. Congratulations!

The cache is placed so cachers can take stock of the escape lane at the bottom of Exeter Road, the long hill down off Haldon. Escape lanes may be a peculiarly Devon thing because the only other one I can remember seeing is at the bottom of Telegraph Hill heading towards Exeter.

Google has not revealed much about the background to the installation of the escape lane. My parents think, but are not sure, that it may have been installed when the (new Exeter) road was built. Whatever the background, I have occasionally seen a car, or more often tyre tracks, in the escape lane. I think that has been more to do with people mistaking it for a convenient place to park than preventing serious incidents further down the hill!!

Anyway, the cache is a simple wheelchair friendly magnetic nano at the junction of Exeter Road and Landscore Road (on the other side of the road from the escape lane). If you can shed any light on the background to the escape lane, please feel free to say so in your log. Enjoy.
